The Writing Journey

September - Book Review

Picture
I haven't read a lot of books this month because I spent most of my time writing the first draft of my category romance 'Reunited'. I did very well, completing the 50,000 word draft within about 5 weeks, so it's no surprise I didn't get much time to read! But the draft is done and the trip to the Whitsunday's for post-draft research is booked, so I've had a very successful month on the writing side of things. Therefore, this post is going to be a short one.

Books I Read in September

First Comes Baby by Michelle Douglas
I library hopped to pick up all the Michelle Douglas books on the shelves and walked away with quite a hoard! The problem was, where was I going to start? I chose this book because it was a friends to lovers romance, which is one of my all time favourites. I really enjoyed Meg and Ben's story and how the two friends came to fall in love after Ben donated Meg his sperm and he realised he wanted to be a father.

The Man Who Saw Her Beauty by Michelle Douglas
I really liked the idea of this book - a woman post breast cancer treatment and single mastectomy coming to accept her new life and new body. I couldn't imagine how strange it would feel to only have one real breast, so it was a very interesting subject to read about. The hero was also very lovable and understanding about Blair's past, after he overcame his prejudice against the modelling world and the little things women did to make themselves look pretty. This was a very wholesome and beautiful read about accepting yourself and that life goes on.

Matters of the Heart by Fiona Palmer
I was very keen for this book but I'll admit in the beginning as I love Pride and Prejudice retellings. But I'll admit, I found the beginning difficult to get through. How would I stay interested in this book if I knew what was going to happen? But after the equivalent of Jane's visit to Netherfield, this story really held it's own. All the main key events were there, but they might have been a little out of order or merged, which made the book a very interesting, contemporary rural read. Loved it.

Books to Read in October

Her Irresistible Protector by Michelle Douglas
I have started the first few chapters of this book and am keen to keep going and read the linked sequel The Rebel and the Heiress.

Eddie and the Show Queen by Cathryn Hein
This is in the post and should be the first piece of mail to arrive at my new house! Cannot wait as Cathryn is one of my top will-read-anything-of-hers authors.

Christmas with the Firefighter by Clare Connelly
I have an advanced reader copy so will get start Christmas stories early this year! I've loved the Clare Connelly book's I've read so far and am very keen to read more.
