Things I did in Bali

I am currently reliving my trip to Bali in 2015 by writing a story of two lonely Australians who meet on their solo Balinese adventure. Bali is a popular destination especially for Australian's because it is close and 'so cheap'. I was never interested in going for the cheap beer and nightlife though - not my thing. So when Townsville started direct flights in 2015, I wasn't keen. Until I actually looked at what was in Bali and realised it was a lot more than beach and beer!

So here is my top 5 Bali experiences.

Settings I Want to Use

One of my dreams is to write books set all over the world, and I guess that's something I can do when I write romance. I have written books in many different places so far - throughout Australia, in Essex, England, Eastern Europe, and Paris - but I don't want to stop there. The world is such a big, vibrant place and I've done a little bit of travel, but I won't let that stop me.

So here's a list of five places that I really want to set a book in.

Gemstones

Jewellery has always been a big part of my life - you can hear my nana from a mile away with her clanging bangles and my uncle is a chain maker. I've always loved the glittering gems from the sparkles on Nana and Mum's fingers, my favourite books as a child were the Jewel Kingdom series, and I was a budding geologist at one point. I love my jewellery and have explored some amazing gemstones at Natural History museums in New York, Washington, and Sydney.

So this is my list of top five favourite gemstones.

Nora Roberts' Romantic Suspense Books

There's no doubt that Nora Roberts is a legend for a reason as she writes truly gripping romances across many subgenres. I was lucky enough to finally discover her in 2011 and it was Nora who not only introduced me to good romance, but to captivating romantic suspense. In 2012, I pretty much binge-read all of Nora's romantic suspense novels and buying books quickly became very expensive. But I have no regrets.

So upon the release of her latest standalone suspense title Under Currents, here is a list of my top 5 romantic suspenses by Nora.

Romance Novel Tropes

Romance novels, especially category romance, are easily defined by 'tropes', a quick summary that immediately tells you what sort of love story you're going to get. There's the romantic relationship tropes, like marriage of convenience, accidental pregnancy, and best friend's sibling. Then there are more character tropes, like royalty, cowboy, and billionaire. Either way, the moment you identify one of these tropes by the title, cover, or blurb, it can be an immediate indication of whether you're interested in the story or not.

So these are just my top 5 tropes that will always grab my attention.

Mexican Foods!

For a while there, you could have said Mexican was my favourite type of food. And honestly, I still love it today, except I find it too difficult to make considering, for it to be good, it's so high in kilojoules! But my favourite restaurant growing up was Cactus Jack's, a tex-mex bar and grill, and I worked there for five years during university. Then in 2016, I got to hop down to Tijuana for a few hours and was super keen to try authentic Mexican food ... and it was not very nice. At least, not at that restaurant. The fajita's I had in New York though, and London, were delicious!

So here is just a list of my favourite Mexican foods, even though I very rarely get to eat them anymore...

Dog Breeds

I love dogs. I've always had them in my life and they sometimes feature in my novels. My rural romantic suspense series in particular has a heavy dog thread and feature many dogs from Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, Kelpies, and a number of Jack Russell Terriers.

So here's a list of my favourite dog breeds. And if you know me, this list will be of no surprise.

Chinese Foods

This is a really random post. I am not a foodie, I wouldn't say I love Chinese food, and I haven't eaten tonnes of it. It is not my go to. But I thought I'd do it anyway because there are some Chinese foods that I love!

I apologise if these aren't culturally accurate as 'Chinese food', but I'm sure it's close enough.
